In addition to the above energy generation technologies, complementary storage and end use energy technologies are considered vital to the overall vision of providing the maximum sustainable energy services for the minimum capital cost.
These complementary technologies may include:
- energy storage devices for peak load clipping, power conditioning, compensation for intermittent sources, emergency backup and other applications and could include advanced electro-mechanical flywheels, advanced battery technologies.
- high efficiency light weight motors, using advanced new magnetic materials, could reduce the weight of these plant items by up to 90%, whilst reducing also the electrical losses.
- high efficiency transformers, also using new magnetic materials would reduce core losses, and improve the distribution efficiency of the system.
- solid state conversion, control and regulation technologies for the integration of the above technologies into systems and applications.
